CD van de Week:
BLINK – RACHELLA COBA
(American Showplace Music, 2018)
Een hele leuke kennismaking, dat is het album Blink van de Amerikaanse Rachella Coba. Nog voordat ze muzikaal actief was was ze al bevriend met niemand minder dan Buddy Guy. Zelf speelde ze al gitaar, maar waarschijnlijk was dat dezelfde als waarmee ze aan de Universiteit van Miami, Florida een bachelor diploma klassieke gitaar behaalde. Maar het bluesvirus sloeg natuurlijk snel toe en ze ontwikkelde een geheel eigen stijl op de elektrische gitaar. Ze beschikt daarnaast ook over een lekkere stem (denk aan een krachtige Bonnie Riatt) en heeft voor dit album de hulp ingeroepen en gekregen van producer en fantastische toetsenist John Ginty. Het resultaat mag er wezen en klinkt fris origineel en vakkundig gemaakt. Het zal me benieuwen hoe lang het duurt voordat we haar ook op de podia hier in de buurt zullen kunnen gaan bewonderen. |
