SOMETHING NEW – MICHAEL KAESHAMMER

Hier nog vrijwel onbekend, in zijn eigen land Canada een autoriteit op piano en jazzy blueszang: Michael Kaeshammer introduceert zichzelf in onze regio met een prima CD: Something New. De titel slaat waarschijnlijk ook op het opnameproces van dit album en de liedjeskeuze: hij ging er voor naar een studio in het hartje van New Orleans, de wijk Treme is wereldberoemd vanwege de orkaan misère, maar ook hoge muzikale dichtheid qua bewoners. En toch daar zijnde heeft hij zich weten te omringen met een aantal coryfeeën uit de muziekscene als Cyril Nevile. George Porter. Maar ook Colin James, Randy Bachman, Curtis Salgado, Jim Byrnes, Amos Garrett en Chuck Leavall komen ‘een deuntje meespelen’. En dat resulteert in een heerlijk swingend jazzblues album waarbij het moeilijk stil zitten is. De liedjes zijn veelal van eigen makelij en zijn piano neemt in elk liedje een belangrijke plaats in. Dat zou nog eens mooi zijn deze blueszomer: hem met een grote band live aan het werk te zien en te horen! |
