ALL I GOT FOR CHRISTMAS IS THE BLUES – MINDI ABAIR & THE BONESHAKERS (Pretty Good For A Girl Records, 2018)

Deze week uiteraard een kerstspecial van Bluespotting. Maar ben niet bang, we gaan wel kerstblues draaien die nu gemaakt wordt en uitgebracht. Dus niet (alleen) die hele oude en ook wel al heel bekende kerstliedjes van B.B. King, Charles Brown, maar hedendaagse kerstliedjes waarbij meestal de bekende bluesthema’s als eenzaamheid, echtscheiding, maar ook gezelligheid en thuiskomen gebruikt worden maar met stevige of bespiegelende bluesmuziek eronder. En wat voor Bluespotting een primeur is, we hebben zelfs een kerst-cd van de week, helemaal vol gespeeld door saxofoniste en zangeres Mindi Abair en haar band The Boneshakers. Het album All I Got With Christmas Is The Blues is een prima bluesalbum, dat toevallig teksten over de kersttijd heeft en hier en daar een geheel eigen versie van een bekend kerstliedje (soms tamelijk onherkenbaar gemaakt). Heerlijke swing, die fantastische stem van Mindi Abair en op gezette tijden ook nog haar scheurende sax erbij: voor de momenten met de kerstdagen dat je even uitgepraat bent en lekker willen swingen rond de kerstboom!
